Welcome to a new place to share and discuss all those frustrating designs we come across daily as we go about the business of living. How many times do we say - What were they thinking?
Who designed this? You know other people are thinking the same thing. Why do these designs exist?

Goal #1 - let out our frustrations and amass some consensus about bad design
Goal #2 - Gather enough comments to influence some design improvements
alarm clockThe idea for "Who designs this stuff?" came on a much needed walk as I started thinking about the most recent alarm clock I purchased at Target. I now have at least 5 alarm clocks scattered around my house that didn't work for me as a morning wake up alarm. After I got them home and tried them out, each one had a major design flaw: can't find the tiny on/off button; can't grasp the flat on/off button -- especially out of a sound sleep; can't read the time or especially the alarm time without my glasses, reluctant to sleep with them on just so I can see the clock; or, the alarm isn't loud enough. Each time I cry in frustration - WHO DESIGNED THIS THING?

The latest clock, shown above, met all my criteria except one, the alarm is so quiet, I know with my aging hearing ability, it probably won't wake me up out of a sound sleep. Isn't that what an alarm clock is supposed to do?!

As comments come in, additional "category" pages will be created. Some of the top submissions will be entered into our Design Hall of Shame.

Please note we also want to praise GOOD design. Submit your recommendations for our Design Hall of Fame and provide Website links, when available.
I love all the product reviews on the Web and always shop with the helpful feedback in mind. But this is scattered over thousands of sites.

Help create a clearing house of design complaints so we can affect some change!

Have a design issue you'd like to comment on? It could be a frustration with a product or place.
